Output

Material sample tile made of earthenware clay with 30% recycled ceramic.
Recycled components of porcelain - stoneware mix which were already fired, with transparent glazing.

This ceramic waste was from an old shower base, broken shards found in the garbage bin, discarded by a local construction worker while renovating a bathroom in Porto downtown.

The logo of the brand Valadares of the shower base was still visible at some shards and the origin could be identified.

Production Process:
• waste collection
• crushed and ground into fine powder
• Portioning: 100ml of ceramic paste with a composition of 30 % waste powder and  70% liquid raw material and additional 5-10% water
• slip casting mould
• drying phase


Firing:
• first firing with a temperature of 950 degrees
• second firing with a temperature of 1050 degrees
