WHAT IF WASTE COULD BE MADE USEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL?
PRIMA took its first steps in 2021 with a Precious Plastic Lab and continues to grow, taking in other raw materials frequently used or produced by Aveiro industries, such as cork, ceramics and paper. The local population has been invited to participate in public events and workshops to be part of creative plastic recycling.
Involving schools, businesses, craft and design these materials will be explored and transformed into new objects and lead to rethinking what we consider to be a “waste”.
RESHAPING OUR MATERIAL WASTE REQUIRES RETHINKING, INVESTIGATION AND CREATIVITY.
PRIMA is set along 3 project lines: Educational service, Research & Development on new applications of material in the framework of product design and Innovation of new materials through biohacking processes.
1. Kickstarting Aveiro’s first Precious Plastic Lab open to the public with four state-of-the-art machines for plastic transformation. Recycling plastic residues with the participation of Aveirenses, who will be invited to hand in their waste in local collection points, as well as taking place in public events, workshops and exhibitions.
2. Moving further on, experimenting with other raw materials such as cork, ceramics, paper and natural fibre composites from the surrounding of Ria, the Atlantic coast and territory of Aveiro. These residues will be explored and transformed into new objects. Developing a more sustainable and local recycling solution and building up an open material library and showcase samples and its design application for circular economy in various exhibitions. Invite artists, architects, designers, researchers and creatives from different fields to collaborate and co-create.
